This drawing came out of my sketchbook. I thought the three heads were a little random and too much so I decided to just have one in the final painting.
I had bought a large 30" by 36" canvas and gridded it off to help align the elements properly. I had printed off my sketch with the grids as well for reference.
Starting to choose the colours I think would work well, everything is rough though. The mountains in the background aren't working.
I have redone the background which is a lot more coherant now. The wings are dark red, though I don't know if they'll stay like this.
At this point, I had started using watered down transparent acrylics to put in detail without losing too much of the colour behind it. The painting is still very flat though and doesn't include any shadows or highlights. The back feathers are quite horrible looking.

Slowly building up different layers of colour.
The orientation of the face has been fixed. It looks more realistic now. I have added some slight shadows by watering down some transparent black acrylic paint and applying it to the side of the figure facing away from my light source.
The Painting is finished. I added some highlights and shadows and some semi transparent layers to the figure. The collar bone has also been realigned, when the wings are spread out like that, the bones should be too, not right next to each other like I had before.
